Rapid technological advancements, growing competition and increased customer expectations have made a marketer’s job tougher than ever before. Make a splash in the pool-services business with little more than some cleaning equipment and a water-test kit. Just load up your tools in your car and make the rounds in your neighborhood. Then dive right into business by marketing your service to homeowners’ associations, apartment complexes and individual residences.
When planning change, questions arise about who will be impacted by those changes. Which business services will be offline due to server or router maintenance? Who does the IT team need to notify about the impending maintenance, which business owners will be impacted? With a service-aligned approach, IT knows which business owners to alert ahead of time and to keep updated on status.
Business services are delivered to customers, supporting their needs, sometimes through the support for a business process or directly supporting a service or product delivered to end customers. A business service may be supported by one or more IT service(s), and may consist almost entirely of IT services especially where the IT service is directly customer-facing. Examples include online banking and online shopping.
In the services marketplace, the people are the brand,â€ the missive continues. But of course IBM has many fewer people these days. The company also expects that plenty of the remaining people will only show up over a wire, as we reported last week when revealing plans to lose another 10,000 services staff and re-deploy many more to low-wage countries.
Drive right up to entrepreneurship as the owner of a valet-parking service. Restaurants, hotels and convention centers can all use the services of a well-dressed, bonded parking staff. The key is having your own team of drivers to keep clients’ customers-and their cars-on the move.
